About Us
Down Red Roads was developed to provide much needed support and resources to people living or working in isolated areas and industries. Rural and remote areas of Australia have significantly higher rates of sexual violence. Despite this, those living in remote areas were less likely to seek support or even to recognise that verbal and psychological abuse and harassment even consituted as violence.

Our Goals
Down Red Roads is dedicated to providing crucial information and resources aimed at addressing the pervasive issue of sexual violence in rural Australia. We offer a wealth of information and support services to empower individuals and communities while raising awareness about these pressing concerns. Our commitment extends towards creating future educational resources tailored for station owners, fostering a culture of safety and understanding in remote regions.
Many contributing factors linked to the prevalence of sexual violence in rural and remote areas of Australia are wholly unique to the culture and geographical infrastructure. As such, a tailored approach is needed. Studies have revealed a lack of appropriate responses and support provided by family, community, and legal and social support services influenced a victim's disinclination to speak up. These inappropriate responses are linked to rural infrastructure, isolated geography, fear of socialisation, idealisation of men/masculine roles in community, and limited relationship and sexual education.
For Employers
Down Red Roads aims to promote change within the community by providing information and guidelines for employers to provide healthy environments
Employers and managers have significant influence on workplace culture, and by extension, how their crew conducts themselves at public events. With the new Positive Duty amendment made to the Sex Dicrimination Act (1984), employers now have a legal obligation to address workplace culture and harassment.
Down Red Roads aims to assist in navigating these new requirements, providing information and guidelines to follow.
Furthermore, we are working to offer training materials for management staff as well as resources to be made available to be used in induction days and the like.
